WO60: A small pool here with the majority of players from Wales! Sian Johnson ended as winner with Lynne Davies as runner-up.
WO55: Another small pool of players with the stand out player and winner being Lesley Sturgess with runner-up being Marcia Brittain, after a very close 5 game win against Helen Browning.
WO50: Rachel Woolford came through this small pool comfortably as winner with Beverly Brockway as runner-up.
WO45: After a 14-12 in the 5th semi-final win against Izzy Tyrrell, Sarah Parr reached the final to play against Linda Pritchard. Sarah got her monies worth of court time again and came out the winner with another 3-2 to become champion.
WO35/40: Katie Lawrence played to the crowd as she enjoys so much and beat the number 2 seed Katie Bradshaw in a very tight 3-2 scoreline. However, in the final Katie came up against her namesake and lost 3-0 to a very strong Natalie Lawrence.
MO75: A small pool of 3 players saw Beverley Boag beat Nigel Belle 3-2 after being 2-0 down and winning the 5th game 16-14. But the champ Adrian Wright beat all in front of him 3-0 to finish as the winner of this event.
MO70: Martin Day took out the 2nd seed Aubrey Waddy early on and reached the final to play Barry Featherstone who moves like a 30 year old! Barry won all his matches 3-0 to finish as the worthy winner.
MO65: A good draw here with some interesting matches throughout. Ian Holmes almost played up to his seeding as number 1 by reaching the final, only for John Goodrich to come through the draw strongly to win the final 3-1.
MO60: Simon Evendon played well to upset the seeding & go all the way to the final but met Ian Bradburn in the final who was too strong with a 3-0 scoreline.
MO55: Outsider Robin Chipperfield did amazingly well to beat the powerhouse number 2 seed Martin Greenslade 3-2 and continued his run to the semi-final where he eventually lost 3-1 to the reserved Nick Peel who did well to beat Jeremy Goulding 3-1 in the round earlier. In the other half, John Parkes won a very tight 3-1 quarter-final against Nick Gollaglee from Somerset and continued his winning ways, all the way to the final where he beat Nick Peel 3-0 to win another regional title.
MO50: A big draw in this event with many good games. Philip Ashman upset the seedings by winning the battle of the Army chaps by beating Ray Burke 3-1. Steve Dodridge beat Phil 3-0 in the semis though, to reach the final. Number 1 seed Steve McLoughlin came through a tough and close 3-1 with Andy Murray and beat Steve Dodridge in the final in a high quality and clean 3-1 scoreline.
MO45: Jeremy Krzystyniak played well to take out the top seed and quickly went 2-0 up against Stuart Summers in the semi-final, only for Stuart to regain his composure and come out with a 3-2 win to reach the final. In the other semi, Matt Stephenson squeezed his way to a 2-1 lead against Andy Normile, only for Andy to prove his superior fitness and win the next two games convincingly to reach the final. Normile again showed his strength in the final to win 3-0.
MO40: A very high quality field in this event with a couple of newcomers into the age group too. Both the two top seeds fell in the semis 3-1 with excellent standard matches and the final was even better. Ashley Bowling played brilliantly all weekend and played the athletic newcomer Mick Biggs I the final. The final was great squash and a close but very clean match. Mick looked like he had the ascendancy after levelling from 2-0 down, but Ashley kept his composure just enough to win 3-2.
MO35: Newcomer to the Masters, David Barnett from Northumberland, won a great semi-final against Phil Nightingale 3-2 to reach the final. In the other semi, Alex Preston had to sadly concede injured during his match with Jamie Goodrich which meant the top two seeds ended up contesting the final. A top quality final which saw some excellent squash, with the youngster Jamie Goodrich showing his fitness and deft touch volleys, however he couldn't get over the line against David who showed his class to eventually win 3-2.
Thanks to Exeter Golf and Country Club for the great facilities and a special thank you to Brian and Roz Brock on running an excellent tournament which went as smoothly as ever.
